For over a century in the 12th century, Cortandone was held by its own local lords, the "Di Cortandone" family, before passing through several other noble hands including the Mandra, Pallidi, Pallio and Scarampi families. Today it's a quiet farming village spread across its frazioni of Campia, Bricco Cisero and Valinosio.
